CVIAQ members, staff and invited guests gathered together at Hillstone St.Lucia on Saturday evening 6th October 2007 to enjoy a great dinner, entertainment and to celebrate the achievements of some of the industry’s most talented members at the CVIAQ Annual Dinner and Awards Night.
The entertainment from local band, Savvy, was enjoyed by all. Members and guests danced the night away to renditions of classic Motown songs from Marvin Gaye, Martha & the Vandellas, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Four Tops.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement and presentation of the CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award. The 2007 award was won by Angus Short of Cummins Engine Company / TORGAS. Angus, an apprentice in Certificate 3 Heavy Commercial Vehicle Engineering – Mechanical Trade, was presented with the Award, a laptop computer & printer and tools to the combined value of approximately $3000.00.
The Industry Recognition Award for 2007 was presented to Mr Bob Nolan from MTU Detroit Diesel Australia for his exceptional contribution to the industry. Mr Nolan, a past Chairman of the CVIAQ Services Managers Council, has been a dedicated and active member of the CVIAQ Service Managers Council since 1981 and was intimately involved in designing training qualifications appropriate for the heavy vehicle industry.
The National Apprentice Challenge, an initiative of the CVIAQ Service Managers’ Council and held at the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show in May this year was reviewed in a video presentation format. Mr Darren Aitken from the Brown & Hurley Group and current Chairman of the CVIAQ Service Managers Council thanked all the volunteers from the Service Managers Council and from SkillsTech Australia for the organisation of the competition and their assistance during the running of the event.
