CVIAQ members, staff and invited guests gathered together at Hillstone St.Lucia on Saturday evening 11th October 2008 to enjoy a great dinner, entertainment and to celebrate the achievements of some of the industry’s most talented apprentices at the 2008 CVIAQ Annual Dinner and Awards Night.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement and presentation of the CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award. The 2008 award was won by Mr James Priddey of MTU Detroit Diesel. Sponsors of the Awards, Mr Doug Warby from Warby Tools and Mr Craig Carmody of National Transport Insurance were on hand to present the award to the winner and to say a few words in support of the competition. James, an apprentice in Certificate 3 Automotive Mechanical – Heavy Vehicle Road Transport, was presented with a framed Award certificate, a laptop computer, software & printer and tools to the combined value of approximately $3,500.00.

MC for the evening, Mr Paul Woodland, announced to the audience that in acknowledgment of the 40th anniversary of the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show, the CVIAQ Board of Directors awarded the Industry Recognition Award for 2008 to the group of people who made up the foundation organising committee for the 1968 inaugural Queensland Truck Show. The formal award presentation will take place at the CVIAQ Annual General Meeting, to be held at the Clem Jones Sunland Leukaemia Foundation Support Village at Coopers Plains on Wednesday 22nd October commencing at 5.30pm.

The entertainment from Beach Boys covers band, The Beach Boyz didn’t disappoint enticing many of the guests to the dancefloor and entertaining those that preferred to sit, listen and watch.

The CVIAQ wish to thank major sponsor, Trader Business Media for its generous sponsorship of the dinner, Apprentice of the Year Award sponsors, Warby Tools and National Transport Insurance for sponsorship of the prize packages given to each award recipient and the Sofitel Hotel Group and Hillstone St Lucia for assisting with the lucky prize giveaways during the evening.
