30/10/09  Ray Smithers of Volvo Group Australia Elected CVIA National President
 

Mr Ray Smithers of Volvo Group Australia was elected President of the CVIAA at its Annual General Meeting held in Canberra on Thursday 29th October with Mr Barry Ward of Scania Australia re-elected as Vice President.

CVIAA is the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association national body whose role is to provide representation at a federal level for manufacturers and suppliers to the commercial vehicle industry.

The CVIAA membership is comprised of individual state bodies and organisations - namely CVIAQ, and the Commercial Vehicle Industry divisions of the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) and the Motor Trades Association (MTA) of NSW, SA AND WA.

The CVIAA maintains representation with a number of agencies including the Commonwealth Department of Transport and Regional Services (DoTaRS), the National Transport Commission (NTC) and Standards Australia and provides input and responses to proposed vehicle regulations and reviews and proposals for Australian Design Rules, Australian Vehicle Standards Regulation and Australian Standards.

Mr Smithers is a long term CVIAQ Board Director being first elected to the Board in October 1993 and serving as CVIAQ President from 1999 to 2003. CVIAQ congratulates Mr Smithers on his appointment and wishes him a long and fruitful term as CVIAA President.
