CVIAQ has received advice on progress with the implementation of Advanced Electronic Braking Systems (AEBS) and Lane Departure Warning Systems (LDWS). LDWS is fairly easy to understand and for those not familiar with it AEBS includes collision detection and automatic application of the brakes.
The technology has been suggested for implementation in heavy vehicles in 2015. The following information from the UN/ECE indicates that it is on target.
The UN/ECE Working Party on Brake and Running Gear (GRRF) (a sub group of UN/ECE WP29) has formed an informal group to prepare draft regulatory proposals to incorporate AEBS and LDWS into new regulations annexed to the 1958 UN/ECE Agreement.
The group has been tasked to take into account existing data and research in developing its regulatory proposals and will consider pre-existing standards and legislation.
The target completion date for the work of the informal group will be the seventeenth session of the GRRF in September 2011.
This would allow time to get the regulation through the European Parliament and allow a lead time for a 2015 introduction. |
