Since the introduction of 26 metre long B-Doubles to Australian roads the requirement has existed to be able to certify trucks as compliant with the legislative requirements. To facilitate this certification CVIAA and TIC produced the Industry Code 26 metre B-Double Plating Requirements in 2006. The Code details the full requirements for the plating inspection process for approval of Front Underrun Protection (FUPS) and Cabin Strength. The Code also calls for the process to be carried out by a Competent Entity.
When fitting a Bullbar to a FUPS prime mover it must be inspected and plated to ensure that it does not interfere with, or compromise the performance of the prime mover’s front underrun protection system.
Likewise when fitting a Bullbar or other device to achieve FUPS compliance the truck must be inspected and plated certifying compliance with the FUPS requirements.
Recent discussions with Queensland Transport have resulted in agreement that for the purposes of certification any professionally qualified engineer who is already an Approved Person will be able to certify FUPS installations and fulfil the role of Competent Entity described in the Code.
