The future workforce project ran a facilitated industry workshop at the Jindalee Hotel on the 5th of November 2008. The workshop was well attended by 20 industry representatives who took the opportunity to contributed to the industry’s future workforce development and planning. The workshop was split into two sessions, the first session identified current workforce development and planning issues and then these issues were prioritized in order of importance by attendees.
The five workforce and development issues identified were:
Improving Career Paths
Apprentice mentoring
Apprentice Pay
Skill Tech Resources
Understanding Generation Y
The second session involved taking these top five issues and discussing them in a workshop environment. This discussion produced ideas for possible strategies and as the project continues actions that address the issues will be implemented.
