29/10/07  Leukaemia Foundation Acknowledges CVIAQ Support

Leukaemia Foundation CEO, Mr Peter Johnston, addressed members at the CVIAQ Annual General Meeting held on the 24th October to thank the CVIAQ for its support of the foundation through its annual CVIAQ President’s Charity Dinner.

The dinner has raised over half a million dollars since its inception in 2002. The funds raised have contributed significantly to the construction of the Clem Jones / Sunland Leukaemia Foundation Accommodation Village & Support Centre at Nathan as well as contributing to the ongoing research into a cure for Leukaemia.

In recognition of the generosity of the CVIAQ and its patrons that regularly support the dinner, the Leukaemia Foundation has named one of the large meeting rooms in the main administration block at the new Support Centre, the “CVIAQ Room”. The room was offered to the CVIAQ as the venue for its recent Annual General Meeting. As an additional gesture, one of the accommodation units has been named in honour of CVIAQ Past President Mr Allyn Eckford who tragically passed away in 2004 after a long battle with Leukaemia.

CVIAQ continues its commitment to assisting patients and their families living with Leukaemia, Lymphoma and other related blood diseases with the return of the CVIAQ President’s Charity Dinner to the Brisbane City Hall in the larger format in 2008. The date for the event is set at Saturday 1st March.
