The 2009 CVIAQ Apprentice Challenge is a competition held to promote Heavy Vehicle Mechanical apprenticeships to people of all ages. It also aims to promote and foster a professional image of the heavy vehicle industry to the wider community.

The competition consists of two teams of two participants each. One team consists of apprentice representatives selected by CVIAQ from its membership. Team CVIAQ are the ambassadors for the industry. The other team will consist of industry members, SkillsTech trainers, media representatives, personalities or the general public. The team participants change each day.

The competition will be held each day of the 2009 Queensland Truck and Machinery Show and will be a ‘hands on’ practical test where teams will be required to rectify identical faults set in identical vehicles within a defined time period. The winning team is the one that successfully identifies and repairs all the faults or the team that rectifies the most faults in the time period allowed.

Unlike the competition held at the 2007 show, the 2009 CVIAQ Apprentice Challenge will be of a more relaxed nature with an emphasis on entertainment to capture the crowd’s attention.

Team CVIAQ will consist of apprentices enrolled at a Certificate 3 level in heavy vehicle mechanical courses in Queensland and employed by CVIAQ member companies or as host employer through a group training organisation. Appropriate courses include:
  MEM Mechanical Diesel Fitter
  AUR Heavy Vehicle Road Transport Mechanic

Competition entry is not limited to the above training qualifications. Eligibility is at the discretion of CVIAQ. All apprentices taking part must be nominated by their employer or host employer if part of a group training organisation.
