22/07/10  Moreton Bay Secondary Schools Students embrace Industry Tour

CVIAQ member companies, Brisbane Isuzu, Burpengary branch and specialised vehicle manufacturer, SVM Queensland, opened their doors to over sixty secondary school students from the Moreton Bay region and provided an informative day showcasing all the career options available to students within their businesses during the 2010 CVIAQ Schools to Industry Tour.

Educational institutions involved on the day were Bray Park State High School, Deception Bay State High School, Tullawong State High School, Arethusa College, Edmund Rice Flexible Learning Centre and Caboolture Special School.

The tour, held on Thursday 22nd July 2010, was the first to be jointly organised by CVIAQ and Schools Business Community Partnership Broker, Moerton Bay Youth Attainment & Transitions Consortium (MBYATC) and proved very successful in terms of genuine student interest. The host companies, a truck dealership and an automotive manufacturer proved to be the right mix in providing students with the majority of career options that the commercial vehicle industry has to offer.

Students and teaching staff were able to see activities involving many of the trades in the manufacturing and service & repair sectors as well as sales, spare parts and sales operations.

Many well deserved thanks to Mr Pete Kenny, Group Service Manager, Brisbane Isuzu and Mr Stephen Paul, Operations Manager, SVM Queensland for giving up their valuable time to conduct the tours. A special thank you is directed to Brisbane Isuzu for providing lunch to all participants on the day.

The 2010 CVIAQ Schools to Industry Tour continues the successful tradition established in 2004 in providing a vehicle for students to make informative choices about apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience within the commercial vehicle industry as they prepare to leave school and enter the workforce.
