Following CVIAQ’s communication with members in May calling for comment on Automotive Training Australia’s (ATA) Draft Packaging Rules for a Trailer Technician Descriptor, CVIAQ responded in June to the National ATA Continuous Improvement Committee with industry’s position on the proposed qualification.
The CVIAQ response included:
Support for the introduction of a specific qualification to recognise technicians working in the heavy commercial vehicle trailer repair service industry.
Support for the qualification being introduced at a minimum of Certificate 3 level
The development of new competency standards covering the areas of advanced braking systems, in particular Electronic Braking Systems (EBS) and Roll Stability Control (RSC), and suspension standards for lifting and steerable axles
The inclusion of hydraulics and pneumatics competencies
The competency standards which have been identified in the draft qualification should be those utilised in the AUM08 Bus, Truck and Trailer Manufacture training package

Following the CVIAQ response, the National ATA Continuous Improvement Committee has determined that further works need to be undertaken with industry representatives and key stakeholders to determine the appropriate competencies and structure of this qualification.
A resolution was passed to identify potential working party members to aid in the development process of these qualifications for their future endorsement by the State Training Authorities and National Quality Council for eventual inclusion in the training package.
CVIAQ requests the services of two members to act as industry representatives who can contribute to the development process of the qualification. Please contact Mr Brett Wright at the CVIAQ office on 07 3376 6266 or by email at b.wright@cviaq.asn.au by Friday 5th September if you wish to be involved. |
