30/04/08  CVIAQ to Participate in the VSS Regulation Review Project

Queensland Transport (QT) is about to commence its review of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999 (VSS Reg). The VSS Reg sets standards that govern the construction and safe use of vehicles on Queensland Roads and requires all vehicles to comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADR’s) applicable to them.

Under the Statutory Instruments Act 1992, the VSS Reg will expire in September 2010. Queensland Transport’s Land Transport & Safety Division (LT&S) is commencing a project to review and update the VSS Reg to remake the regulation prior to its expiry.

CVIAQ has been identified as a key stakeholder for the VSS Reg Review Project and as such has been invited to participate in the initial phase of the consultation. The objective will be to identify issues with current regulatory provisions and determine which issues will be progressed as part of the VSS Reg Review Project. The review will commence in this month.
