Queensland Transport has developed a draft policy proposal for the vehicle repair register. Included in the proposal development, the stakeholder consultation group comprising
representatives of CVIAQ, IAME, MTAQ, RACQ and the Queensland Police Service determined that compliance issues with regard to vehicle repairers keeping written registers had created a need for Section 133 of the Transport Operations Act 1995 and Section 166 of the Traffic Regulation 1962 to be consolidated.
Section 133 of the Act requires vehicle repairers to keep a register repairs carried out on motor vehicles.
Section 161 of the regulation references Section 133 of the Act and requires additional information to be recorded if a vehicle is being repaired or painted as a result of being involved in a collision.
The Queensland Police Service has raised concerns with the provisions as Section 161 of the regulation is often overlooked because it is not cross referenced in Section 133 of the Act.
Industry bodies have raised concerns on behalf of their members regarding the actions of the Police in enforcing the two
provisions as they impose differing requirements. They have also raised concerns about the lack of knowledge within the industry to keep a repair register.
Please direct any comments to the draft policy proposal to b.wright@cviaq.asn.au no later than Friday 28th March 2008.
CVIAQ will have this matter on the agenda at the Service Managers Council Meeting to be held at the CVIAQ office on Wednesday 5th March 2008. |
