31/05/08  CVIAQ WH&S Workshops Well Attended by Members

To further reinforce the high regard and importance members place on having good workplace health & safety procedures within their workplaces, the CVIAQ information sessions held on Wednesday 21st May were very well attended.

The workshops, facilitated by Ms Tracey Wyatt and Mr Rick Milne from Workplace Health & Safety Queensland, provided members with a practical approach to managing safety within their workplaces with the facilitators encouraging participant interaction.

The workshops addressed issues such as:
  Management commitment
Consultation of safety issues with employees
Developing & implementing safe work procedures
  Training & supervision of employees
  Reporting safety issues
Workers compensation & return to work programs

The second half of the workshop focussed on members self assessing their business practices and creating a risk analysis and safe work procedure for specific areas of their business.

CVIAQ extends its gratitude to member companies, Lusty EMS and The Brown & Hurley Group for allowing Ms Tracey Wyatt access to their premises to gain an insight into industry practices. With the assistance of staff at the two premises, Tracey was able to create some sample safe work procedures specific to the industry that was used as examples during the sessions.
